Wounded veterans to participate in potluck, snowmobile trip
Russ Lambert doesn’t personally know any members of the military, but he still has gratitude for the sacrifices soldiers make. Lambert, the general manager at Steamboat Lake Outfitters, along with Rocky Mountain Rentals, will bring eight wounded veterans to North Routt on Friday and Saturday for Operation Healing Snow.
Steamboat track and field team opens season fast
The Steamboat Springs High School track and field team opened the season Saturday at the Jaguar Invitational at Legacy Stadium in Denver. As a team, Steamboat finished ninth out of 15 at the mostly Class 5A meet.

The University of Denver ski team put its stamp Saturday as the most decorated and dominant collegiate team of the decade. That it took place in Steamboat Springs was somewhat symbolic. Coaches Andy LeRoy, Aaron Haffey and Hennie Kashiwa are Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club veterans.
Steamboat girls soccer tops Glenwood Springs
Coaches say that at this early point of the girls soccer season, it’s more about the effort than the polish. So while Steamboat Springs High School beat Glenwood Springs, 2-1, on Saturday in a game best described as disjointed, each coach walked away from Gardner Field feeling a little better about his team.
Nordic team finishes 5th in Norway
The U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team finished fifth at a World Cup team event in Oslo, Norway, on Saturday. Johnny Spillane, Todd Lodwick, Billy Demong and Nick Hendrickson started the cross-country ski in fourth, 52 seconds behind Germany.
Steamboat girls tennis readies for regional run
The Sailors tennis team again will be the team to beat in the regional tournament. Steamboat has won five consecutive regional titles but should be heavily contested this season by Montrose, Aspen and Vail Mountain.

At the conclusion of last season, the Steamboat Springs High School boys baseball team sat on the outside of the playoffs by a single game, but the team should have the opportunity to make the playoffs this season.
Colorado skiers take classic races Thursday at NCAA championship
University of Denver and University of Colorado skiers fared well Thursday in the classic race at Howelsen Hill. CU senior Matt Gelso won the men’s 10-kilometer race, and DU skier Antje Maempel won the women's 5-kilometer race. Slalom races are today at Howelsen.
Olympians to visit troops
Nordic combined team will travel to meet, greet US forces
The U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team — winners of seven Olympic medals — will take part in the Armed Forces Entertainment “Olympic Heavy Medal Tour” in early April. The tour will take Olympic medalists Johnny Spillane, Billy Demong, Todd Lodwick and Brett Camerota on a special tour to visit troops at U.S. military bases around the globe.

Highlighted by elite individual performances and brilliant team efforts, the Rocky Mountain Division, mostly Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club members, dominated the 2010 Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Junior Olympics.
