Tiger wrestlers flex muscles in Rangely

Hayden High School’s Coy Letlow and Mitch Doolin picked up tournament titles last weekend as the Tigers wrestling team rolled to a fourth-place finish at the Rangely Invitational.

The Rangely Panthers scored 199 1/2 points to slip past the top-ranked Grand Valley Car­dinals and win the tournament by a margin of just 5 1/2 points. The Cardinals, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 2A, finished in second with 194 points. Wrestlers from Duchesne, Utah, finished third with 152 points.

The Tigers captured fourth place with 94 1/2 points. Grand Junction was fifth with 89.

“Our wrestlers had a good weekend,” Hayden coach Ty Zabel said.

Hayden’s top wrestlers, Doo­lin, at 145 pounds, and Let­low, at 189, continued to look strong in Rangely. Both wrestlers won their weight divisions.

The Tigers also got strong showings from Treyben Letlow, who wrestled at 171 pounds and placed second, and 130-pounder Mitch VeDepo, who placed fourth.

Hayden is cheduled to face Moffat County at 6 p.m. today in a dual meet.
