HISTORY

Advocates Building Peaceful Communities (formerly Advocates Against Battering and Abuse) was incorporated in December 1983. The grassroots beginnings of the organization were initiated by the Routt County District Attorney’s office. Initial services included 24-hour crisis response by volunteers and the director. Through the years services were expanded as the needs in the community presented. AABA began providing 24-hour crisis response to other crime victims in 1999. A sexual assault program was initiated in 1985 and outreach services expanded in the following years to include a high school peer education program, criminal justice advocacy, and a residential shelter.
